CHESTER PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
Membership of this club has been a constant stimulation and source of inspiration. Webmaster Den Fawcett has done an excellent job! Affiliated to the Lancashire & Cheshire Photographic Union whose website can be visited by clicking here. Chester, itself a source of many of my photos, has its official site here.

ANDREW SMITH GALLERY
See some examples of the best photography. Includes Magnum photographers (see below) and many others.

MAGNUM PHOTOS INC
The world's greatest photography agency was founded in 1947 by the world's most talented photographers, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, David Seymour (Chim), and George Rodger. Already distinguished for their documentary work, they set about to form a consortium that would protect their ownership of photographic negatives, give them editorial control over the use of their photographs, and free them from the tyranny of big magazine or agency editors who took advantage of reporters' time as well as their negatives. In short, for the first time in the history of photography, the Magnum agency provided its members with their own copyright. The benefits of this we all enjoy to this day.

STREET PHOTOGRAPHY
in-public.com was set up in 2000 to provide a home for street photographers. Their aim is to promote street photography, and to continue to explore its possibilities. All the photographers featured were invited to show their work because they have the ability to see the unusual in the everyday, and to capture the moment.

PHOTOGRAPHIC COLLECTORS CLUB OF GB
The Club has been in existence since 1977 and has an international membership interested in all aspects of photographic history and collecting. Its stated aim is "to promote the study and collection of historical photographic equipment and images".

TED'S PHOTOGRAPHICS
Ted's Photographics Internet Site was opened in late 1999. The site grew from his personal desire to study photography. It started life as a collection of review notes in electronic format and developed into a site he is pleased to share with you. The site only covers a few key areas of photography but he has plans to enhance the site and your comments and suggestions are welcome. Really excellent and well worth a visit!

SEBESTIAO SALGADO Hon.FRPS
Concerned by the millions of refugees, migrants and dispossessed, Brazilian Sebastião Salgado photographed in 39 countries in 7 years. Why? "My hope is that, as individuals, as groups, as societies, we can pause and reflect on the human condition at the turn of the millennium. In its rawest form, individualism remains a prescription for catastrophe. We have to create a new regimen of coexistence." Wonderful photography by one of the world's greats.

ERIC TREACY Railway Photographer
Eric Treacy was one of Britain's finest railway photographers. During the course of more than forty years at the lineside, he produced some of the most memorable images of the railway scene in Britain. He took up photography in Liverpool in 1932, the same year that he became a Deacon in the Church of England. Treacy's interest in locomotives was sparked by a visit to Lime Street station, and he spent the rest of his life trying to capture what he saw as the 'magic' of the railways.

ALEC SOTH
Alec Soth lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has received fellowships from the McKnight and Jerome Foundations and was the recipient of the 2003 Santa Fe Prize for Photography. His photographs are in major public and private collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the Walker Art Center. His work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the 2004 Whitney Biennial. His first book, Sleeping by the Mississippi, was published by Steidl in 2004. Soth has photographed for The New York Times Magazine, Fortune and Newsweek. In 2004, he became a nominee of Magnum Photos. Alec was kind enough to comment on my photography and has an exhibition at the Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool until 5th February 2005.

The OPEN EYE GALLERY, Wood St., Liverpool

Whilst photography is at the heart of its artistic programme, a variety of media are represented, including film, video and installation. Its programme also includes occasional historical exhibitions that look back with particular interest at work that exerts a strong influence on contemporary practice. Through its exhibitions, publications, projects and events it aim to present the photographic image, both still and moving, in a rich context of critical and historical debate.

EDWARD POVEY Artist & Sculptor
The subject of one of my photo shoots, and I thank him for giving me the opportunity to photograph him in his studio. Edward Povey is a British artist with a studio in Bangor, North Wales. He was born in London in 1951 the only son of a seaman, and showed artistic talent from an early age. In his teens he painted in Canada and the Middle East, and later became noted for his accomplished murals in Wales in the 1970’s. He painted in a Caribbean studio in the 80’s, until American art collectors brought his work to the U.S.A. Now he is represented by galleries in Wales, London, New Orleans, San Francisco, Carmel and California. Povey’s art is documented and discussed both in the British media and in a number of art publications, and his work now hangs in private and public collections internationally.

CONSCIENTIOUS - a weblog about photography, art, and life.
Jörg Colberg (pictured to the left) works as an astrophysicist, currently in Pittsburgh, USA, and spends a lot of his spare time on photography. He has his own personal photography website jmcolberg.com. He has created "Conscientious" which is a weblog about photography, art, and life in general. Predominantly, contemporary photography, but he is not going to try to define what future or past posts will or did contain other than saying that it's photography or art that he like(d) or stuff that he was/am interested in (incl. some politics). He is no professional photography critic, and he does not aspire to be one; hence there will be no long words. He thinks good photography doesn't need making too many words!

BORGO PRETALE- a wonderful place to relax in Tuscany.
An ancient lost world where to discover hospitality of quality and taste the best of Italian gastronomic and oenological tradition. A Sojourn at Borgo Pretale is a journey through time as well as the history of this tiny hamlet surrounded by lush green and under the watchful eye of a fortified tower. The latter, today brought back to its ancient glory, hosts some of the hotel's rooms. The other are located in the surrounding buildings. Borgo Pretale is a corner of Haven, ideal for a holiday but also for business meetings.

PYROGRAPHY
A fascinating and little-known art form (one of my other websites!) where heated tools are used, often in conjunction with paint to produce a unique body of work. Pyrography is an old craft, traditionally used to decorate wooden tools and artefacts.
