About the Artist |
| Lakis Xanthopoulos was born in Thessaloniki
in 1944. He trained as an Interior Designer. His artistic pursuits have
always involved painting in all sorts of different media: pencil, ink,
acrylics not only on paper but also on pebbles, marble and wood. He
has found his niche in Byzantine Iconography and Pyrography. He began
developing his pyrographic skills in 1991 taking lessons at the Thessaloniki
YMCA and producing his first works of art. Soon, he developed his own
technique from the traditional ‘hatching’ style to one closer
to painting, with a wider range of strokes and shades. This has given
Lakis the opportunity to successfully exhibit his work to the public
as well as offer pyrography seminars passing his knowledge to others.
He specializes in religious portraits, horse portraits and equestrian
themes, still life, and Greek landscapes (island scenes, monasteries
etc.). Lakis prefers working on elm boards for their whiteness and soft
grain. His themes are based on pictures and photographs but he also
designs original pieces. He accepts commissions and every piece produced
is unique. For any enquiries please call 00447825604831 or you can e-mail
